이런 이야기 QUESTA STORIA 전시기획_ 포켓테일즈 (@pokettales)아티스트_ 브라이트룸 (@bright.room)2023.11.7 ― 11.18포켓테일즈 지금은 보잘것없어 보일지라도 한때 어린 시절엔 내 목숨과 같이 귀하게 여기던 것들이 있다. 그중 문구점에서 발견한 작은 집게 두 개가 기억에 남는데 마치 집게 모양이 작고 여린 생명처럼 느껴져서 토토즈라 이름을 붙였다. 작은 상자에 토토즈를 담아두고, 나와 모든 걸 함께 했다. 밥을 먹을 때도 손을 씻을 때도 그들은 언제나 내 곁에 있었다. 그들이 있었기에 당시 나의 삶은 함께해야 할 것들이 많아서 바쁘고 인상에 남는 씬도 다채로웠다. 오롯이 마음을 나누는 친구가 생기기 전, 나의 민낯을 그대로 보여줄 수 있는 대상이자 나의 분신이었다. 아직도 토토즈가 기억에 남는 이유는 타인을 통해서가 아닌 온전히 나로 살아갈 방법을 배웠기 때문이다. 그 중심엔 이야기가 있었다. 삶을 살아가는 데에 나를 주인공으로 한 이야기를 내가 또렷이 알고 한 문장으로나마 남기는 일은 자아 존중감을 키우는 것에 양질의 영양분을 공급한다. 이번 전시에 대한 인상은 여기서부터 시작한다. 우리 안에는 어떠한 이야기가 담겨 있는가? 책과 서랍 그리고 성냥갑과 같은 대상으로 하나씩 꺼내어 보거나 다시 엮어본다면, 이번 전시의 작품들이 우리의 상상 속 세계를 빚어 만든 결정체가 된 것만 같다. 행복을 느끼던 순간을 수집해서 모은 서랍 칸, 구겨지지 않는 페이지로 추억을 남기는 단편 이야기책. 브라이트룸 작가 세 사람이 남긴 이야기에 공감이 갈 때 마치 내 이야기가 된 것만 같아서 잃어버린 감정과 생각들이 작고 소중히 빛나게 된다. 이러한 순간을 경험한다면 마음속 밝은 방의 위치를 파악하게 된다. 어 여기 있었구나! 먼지를 툴툴 털고 그 빛과 따스함으로 며칠을 살아간다. 어김없이 마음속에 어두움이 몰려드는 때면 이들의 작품을 꺼내어 매만져 보자. 그동안 하나씩 소장하며 지속해서 이 세 사람의 손길을 찾는 이유도 나의 밝은 방의 군불을 지피기 위해서라는 생각을 한다. 누군가 저와 같이 추위에 따스한 온기가 필요했던 분이라면, 이번 전시 안에서 나를 위해 불씨를 내어줄 성냥 같은 존재를 찾아주세요. Although they may appear insignificant now, there were things from my youth that held as much value to me as life itself. One memory that stands out is the discovery of two small tongs in a stationery store. Its tongs seemed like fragile beings, so I named it Totoz. Totoz found a home in a small box and accompanied me everywhere. It was my constant companion, whether I was eating or washing my hands. Having Totoz by my side filled my days with a sense of busyness, as there were many shared moments and unforgettable scenes. Before I had a friend with whom I could openly share my feelings, Totoz became my alter ego and someone I could reveal my true self. I still vividly remember Totoz because it taught me the invaluable lesson of living as my authentic self, rather than living through the expectations of others. At the core of this lesson was a narrative – a story that placed me as the main character in my own life. Recognizing and embracing this personal narrative, even if it's just a single sentence, provides essential nourishment for building self-esteem. And it is from this point that my reflections on this exhibition truly begin. What stories do we carry within us? As we carefully take out and arrange objects like books, drawers, and matchboxes one by one, the pieces in this exhibition seem to embody our imaginative world: a drawer filled with moments of joy and short stories preserving memories in crease-free pages. When I empathize with the tales left behind by the three talented Brightroom artists, it's as if these stories become my own, and the emotions and thoughts once lost transform into something small yet profoundly precious. In these moments of connection, you'll discover the bright room within your heart. There, you'll exclaim, "Oh, there you are!" As you dust off and bask in the light and warmth they provide for a few cherished days. Whenever darkness starts to gather within your heart, gently touch their work. The reason I've collected each of these pieces and continue to seek the touches of these three artists is to kindle a flame within my own bright room.
